For one night only McCrady’s Restaurant is closing its doors to the public for "A Night for the Children" Gala to benefit Carolina Youth Development Center (CYDC).

BBBS Picnic

Saturday September 20, 1pm. Location TBD. Enjoy hot dogs, sweet tea, lemonade, and lawn games with other Bigs and Littles! More info to come, keep an eye out!

 

Arts in the Park

Saturday, September 20, 5-9pm in Hampton Park. Free. A fun, affordable way to spend an evening in your own community. Bring a blanket or lawn chair to view and listen as local children display and present their various artistic talents.

 
 
First Annual Charleston Peace One Day

Sunday, September 21, 2008, at Brittlebank Park. A festival to celebrate an annual day of global ceasefire and non-violence; events are being held worldwide, come be a part of the Charleston celebration! There will be music, and a Peace Pole dedication to Charleston, with more to come! Check out www.bepeaceful.org for more info.

Charleston Green Fair

Sunday, September 28; Marion Square, downtown Charleston. The largest green event in South Carolina! Come check out family friendly entertainment and education. Tickets will be sold on site for the Wine and Beer Garden to benefit Lowcountry Earth Force and The Sustainable Seafood Initiative; otherwise the event is FREE to the public.

 
 
MWV Specialty Chemicals Division Plant Tour

Saturday October 11, 10am-12pm. Did you know that Charleston, SC exports more manufactured chemical products than almost anywhere else in the United States?  Did you know that pine trees can be used to make all kinds of chemicals used in everyday things like ink, dyes, and asphalt?  Did you know that more chemists and engineers are employed in the North Charleston area than just about anywhere else in South Carolina?
Join us for a great morning to learn more about MWV Specialty Chemicals Division.  You'll get an overview of products that are made by the company, take part in a science and engineering game, have a snack and go on a plant tour.

Casper's Castle and Teddy Bear Picnic

Wednesday October 22, 11am-1pm at St Julian Devine Community Center. $1 admission fee.  Join them for a spooky family fun Halloween festival and lunch! Children of all ages can participate in ghastly games, jump castles, face painting, contests, and craft zone.  There will also be snacks, treats, and prizes for the little ghosts and goblins.  Remember to come dressed in your scariest, spookiest, silliest and most creative costumes!

Sew Smart
Lenevar Playground (1305 Lenevar Drive), Wednesdays 4:30 - 5:30pm. $5.00 per month per participant. Developed to teach children basic sewing skills. This will provide positive intergenerational experiences for youth, teens and adults. For ages 6 and up (Parents and adults are encouraged to attend). Pre-register by calling (843) 724-7332.

Kid's Yoga

Build and Grow

Free workshops are at Lowe's stores.  Classes are recommended for children in grades 2-5. Each participant receives a free apron, certificate, and take-home project.  Contact individual Lowe's stores for details.

 
 
Kids' Workshops

Register early at all locations of the Home Depot.  Workshops and materials are designed for ages 5-12.  Workshops are scheduled between 9am and noon the first Saturday of the month.  Classes are free, but spaces are limited.  Each participant receives a free apron and take-home project.  Contact individual stores for details.

 
 
Create a Craft

The National Outdoor Sculpture
Competition and Exhibition

Installed at Riverfront Park in North Charleston through March 28, 2008. The exhibit is set along the Cooper River where visitors have access to walking trails, a fishing pier, an oversized sandbox and children’s play fountain. Admission and parking are free. August - Sunday the 24th, check out the Riverdogs game from behind home plate. Kids get to run the bases and get their bats, balls, and shirts signed by players, and might even get to hang out with some Charleston firefighters! RSVP by August 18th.
